Worldhost Food Ambassador Accreditation
Ask us where to eat & drink delicious local produce
When visiting a new place, it’s always nice to sample the local cuisine and with Northern Ireland having some really tasty produce we have decided to help you find the very best.
Here at Airporter buses and transport are our business but we often get asked an array of questions including food and drink recommendations.
So, to enable us to give the very best advice 32 members of Airporter staff recently completed the World Host Food Ambassador accreditation in the City Hotel and it had to have been THE tastiest training we have ever undertaken!
Airporter is a World Host recognized business and the staff were the first trained in World Host Principles of Customer Service in 2012. Airporter was also one of the companies that helped Derry/Londonderry achieve the title of “UK World Host City” in 2014. The Food Ambassador course recognizes the enormous opportunities Derry/Londonderry offers as a city and Northern Ireland as a whole. The Food Ambassador course was designed after the tremendous success of the Year of Food and Drink in 2016, and helps all businesses who serve visitors prepare their staff to sell the best of our hospitality and food produce to our visitors.
We were very lucky to be joined by the City Hotel’s Paul McElhinney who helped us understand the economies of scale involved in buying food for a hotel and how local producers are getting a chance to supply our hotels – he also prepared a sumptuous lunch, using local vegetables, fish and meat. We are very grateful also to Derry & Strabane District Council who supported the training and to our superb World Host trainer Michelle Simpson. It’s a tough job, folks- but somebody’s gotta do it!
So, don’t be afraid to ask any of our drivers or customer service staff. We are only happy to help!
